Curfew in Hangu, militant positions bombed
By Saboor Khan
HANGU: Security forces have launched an operation against suspected militants after imposing a curfew in Hangu city on Wednesday morning, locals said.
Bombardment:
Regular army units took control of patrolling and security from the paramilitary forces, and continued bombarding suspected Taliban positions in the Zargari and Shanawari areas of the district throughout the day.
Locals said 13 civilians had been injured and nearly two dozen houses damaged in the shelling by troops.
The troops also blocked the Kohat-Parachinar Road to seal the main entry and exit points of the Hangu district, but no militant has been killed or arrested by the security forces thus far, officials said.
Rising tensions have triggered a mass exodus of the local population and there were reports that the entire Zargari village had been evacuated.
The curfew-hit areas are also running short of food supplies due to the closure of roads and authorities had even prevented social worker Abdul Sattar Edhi from taking supplies to the affected people.
